Karen m mCaRTHUR Biography

Karen McArthur is a Canadian and New York Attorney who advises Canadian venture capital firms, tech incubators and financial institutions. Karen worked at Canada’s top mutual fund firm before law school. Karen started her Masters in Economics, concurrent with her law degree.

 Our world is changing rapidly. Karen McArthur is fascinated by technology, economics, the law, and how we may use these three to ‘keep calm and change the world’. She was recently invited to the roundup session of the Blockchain Summit on Necker Island, 2016, and was quoted in Forbes for her comments on the transformative power of the Blockchain.

 Karen McArthur is an Official Advisor to a worldwide summit, FLOW, to be held October 2017, inviting First Ladies of the World to converge, brainstorm, and create solutions to access to capital for women. 

Karen McArthur is an Advisor to Alchemus Capital, Loeb Capital and to a phenomenal made in Canada tech start up, Moonlite. Karen is Secretary and Director of a mining company.

Karen McArthur is also a Judge of the SF Music Tech Summit Startup Competition, October 2016.

 Karen McArthur has practiced law since 1991. Throughout her legal career, Karen has risen to the challenge of litigating many high profile cases in the courtroom. She is passionate about hearing people’s stories and presenting their narrative in all of its context, and bending the views of the ‘powers that be’, to victories for her clients. Karen speaks ‘truth to power’ with a raw and punchy edge, both in the courtroom and in the media spotlight – defending freedom, liberty and justice. Karen McArthur, embraces being a feminist. She particularly enjoys representing and advancing women’s cases and issues both in the courtroom and beyond onto the world stage; economic, social and political challenges abound in this arena. 

 Karen McArthur is raising three children, on her own, and teaching them by example, that “one shot that’s all we get – make a difference.”  Her children’s concern for their future world inspired Karen to become involved with MaiTai Global, a group of extreme tech innovators, entrepreneurs and athletes.  As a MaiTai Global member, Karen passionately raises awareness and money for our oceans and ecosystems.  Karen blogs at thebeaulife.com, is a motivational speaker, and is currently writing her first novel.
